Welcome New Parents!
What exactly is a doula?
A doula is a trained non-medical birth professional who provides continuous:
informational support to the mother before, during and just after birth
Why does a doula make a difference?
Studies have shown that when doulas attend birth:
- labors are shorter with fewer complications,
- babies are healthier and they breastfeed more easily.

What will you do at my birth?
In short, whatever you need to help you achieve a positive birth experience, however you define that. Most importantly, that will mean providing you with any information you may need to make an informed choice about any options or wishes. It will likely include suggesting comfort measures for pain, position changes, and partner relief and support if needed. We will make sure you have food and drink to keep energy up, and suggest rest when appropriate. All decisions should be made in consult with your care provider.
